Phoenix: the Ford Pinto StoryAdam Whittier (Class of 2013)

Have you ever heard about the Pinto? It was a small car designed by Ford in the late 1960s. Compact cars were popular, and Ford wanted one, too. But a little car soon became a big problem, when folks realized that it would burst into flames when rear-ended…even going slowly!

But what else was happening? What went on inside Ford, before the Pinto went on sale? Follow a Pinto named Phoenix through this story of the same name, and watch how the quest to build a simple compact car quickly became something else: one of the most reprehensible cases of corporate jackassery to ever unfold in the public arena.

Somewhere between a muckraking expose and a fairy tale, Phoenix: the Ford Pinto Story is a book to inform and entertain a new generation of critical thinkers. Charmingly drawn and meticulously researched, it’s a volume no auto enthusiast, news junkie, or history buff will want to be without.

Little Tommy Lost: Book OneCole Closser (Class of 2013)

Separated from his parents on a trip to the big city, a lost little boy unknowingly sets out on a great adventure as he searches for a way home in Little Tommy Lost: Book One. Reminiscent of the newspaper strips and lushly illustrated Sunday comics of the early 20th century, Cole Closser’s work is steeped in cartooning history, but filled with an unparalleled sense of the new. Check out the book trailer here!

NothingShouldBePrecious

Nothing Should Be Precious - Dan Rinylo (Class of 2013)

It’s a regular hodge-podge!  A sh!t – show!  (Not for kids, though.)  Nothing Should Be Precious is a forty eight page collection of comic strips and stories. Chock full of gags and accidental musings by a cartoonist deeply steeped in the pen and ink tradition of American cartooning.

Tiny Dynamo: DEMOS - Allie Kleber (Class of 2013)

Tiny Dynamo: Demos is a tasty collection of bite-sized stories about a rock band of adorable, if occasionally quarrelsome, queers … from their humble college bar beginnings to stadiums and international attention!

Just how do you drag a biology major in front of a mic during finals?  How do you handle inappropriate radio interview questions?  And what happens when you REALLY need to take a nap on the tour bus?

Queerotica – edited by  Joyana McDiarmid, Laurel Leake and Allie Kleber, and Sasha Steinberg (Class of 2013)

Queerotica is freshman effort for this dedicated team of co-editors, with a cover by Laurel Lynn Leake!

When they set out to create an anthology of queer erotic comics, they asked each of their potential contributors to describe what those terms meant to them, with varied and inspiring results.  Ultimately, the resulting collection represents many different facets of the queer erotic imagination, creating a diverse, sometimes surprising, often sexy, and always imaginative picture.

Queerotica will feature the work of CCS alums Lena Chandhok, Alexis Cornell, Rachel Dukes, Melanie Gillman, Miz Moody, Rio Aubry Taylor and Laura Terry!
